Alternative and Augmentative Communication (AAC)

Communication is more than just the words we say. Using a range of communication tools for people with communciation disorders supports wellbeing and has also been shown to encourage improvement in verbal communication.

Alternative and augmentative communication (or AAC) includes any tool (technology or non-technology) that supports communication.

Examples of AAC may include:

  • Low tech AAC including a personalised page with pictures for specific situations

  • High-tech AAC including apps that generate speech after selecting a picture of written word

We provide assessment and implementation of appropriate AAC options with the goal of supporting communication, understanding and overall participation.
